W2W: to Toronto WMCFW

As most of you may know, World Mastercard Fashion Week in Toronto started yesterday. I do not have the opportunity to attend this year, but am looking forward to reading the reviews from fellow bloggers. If I were to attend, … Continue reading

Snow More

Spring does not appear to be on its way here in Toronto. I woke up this morning not wanting to get out of my pjs and feeling miserable because it was so dark and cold outside. The minute I got home today, I threw on my J. Crew checkered pyjama set (similar to this), robe and warm socks and ducked under the covers in my bedroom with my laptop. A perfect night to watch it snow, and some of my favourite episodes of Sex and the City.

Healthy movie/TV time snack.

Carrie Bradshaw White Dress

One of my favourite episodes. I love this dress on her. I’d love one for myself.

Sex and the City Carries Halston Dress

Yes, the second movie wasn’t amazing, but the fashion was superb. After seeing this movie, I fell for the Halston Heritage label. I purchased the same dress SJP wore in the movie here and many other fabulous finds that I’ll be posting in the warmer months.

What do you do when having the Monday blues?

Green with Envy

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner. This year, the  Spring 2013 Fashion Week trends included this rich emerald green colour; also extremely appropriate for St. Paddy’s Day. It doesn’t mean you have to go all out and wear head-to-toe in green, but rather, picking one piece and pairing it with black, white or whatever colour you choose. Green With Envy
  1.  Equipment, Fern Green Signature Silk Shirt, $325
  2. Vionnet, Casual Pants, $930
  3. MCQ Alexander McQueen, Goldtone Stud Leather Ballerina, $385
  4. Diane von Furstenburg, New Cahil Dress, $225
  5. MCQ Alexander McQueen, Studded Pointed Leather Pumps, $470
  6. See by Chloe, Silk Top, $135
  7. J. Crew, Miri Mid-heel Suede Pumps, $196
  8. Topshop, Knitted Mix Stitch Sweater, $55
  9. Valentino, Emerald Backless Lace Dress, $6140

My two favourites from this selection are the See by Chloe silk top and Equipment blouse. I love pieces that can be dressed up or down and I can picture both of these with dressy leggings, dress pants, jeans or even shorts. Versatility is key.

*This Valentino dress is simply stunning. I love the cut, design and the elegant lace layer. The back of the dress is to die for! I’d love it in black as well!

Limonyello

Unlike limoncello liqueur, this colour doesn’t just come out after dinner. This spring, bright and bold colours are very in. It doesn’t mean you’re to wear yellow pants with a yellow shirt, shoes and a clutch, but rather, making one piece the accent of your ensemble. There are some really great pieces popping up in this limoncello yellow colour that would definitely brighten up your spring wardrobe. Here are some ideas:

Limoncello Yellow

  1. Alexander McQueen, ‘The Skull’ Box Clutch, $1465
  2. Manolo Blahnik, Bb Patent Pointed-Toe Pump, $660
  3. Erika Cavallini Semi Couture, Pleated Silk Skirt, $420
  4. J. Crew, Curator Mid-Rise Crepe Pant, $170
  5. Tomas Maier Saint Tropez, Cashmere Shorts, $860
  6. SO, Lace Racerback Tank, $6.99
  7. Diane von Furstenburg, Noa Knitted Sweater, $250
  8. Dooney & Bourke, O-Ring Shopper, $275
  9. ASOS Liberty, Pointed Ballet Flats, $43

Yes, some of these choices are quite pricey. It’s easy to find similar pieces at a less expensive price at H&M, Forever 21, Joe Fresh, J. Crew, Topshop and the Bay. If you want some help, let me know!

Chambray Craze

Chambray shirts are great. They’re a lightweight material that can be dressed up or down; worn with heels, flats or sneakers. I bought my first chambray shirt three years ago from J. Crew and it’s been worn many times with heels or converse, under sweaters and with t-shirts. Today, it’s really easy to find chambray shirts everywhere from Urban Behaviour to Holt Renfrew.

My favourite look is when a chambray shirt has its sleeves rolled up and is tucked into white jeans and paired with clunky brown heeled sandals.

Here are some chambray shirts I’d love to purchase:

Crazy About Chambray

  1.  J. Crew, Circle-Print Chambray Pop-Over, $88
  2. Splendid, Fitted Chambray Shirt, $80
  3. Madewell, Dotted Chambray Boyshirt, $74
  4. J. Crew, Keeper Chambray Shirt, $80
  5. Madewell, Two-Tone Chambray Shirt, $90
  6. Topshop, Casual Chambray Shirt, $44

What would you wear with your chambray shirt?

W2W: A Rainy Day (Part Two)

Rainy days always emanate a comfortable and cozy vibe. Waking up this morning was difficult, but it was one of those days where wearing leggings or jean leggings and a long cozy sweater was appropriate.

Here is what I like to wear on cool, rainy days:

Cheaper option

  1. H&M, Jumper, $22.95
  2. H&M, Blouse, $14.95
  3. Forever 21 Zippered Leg Skinny Jean, $27.80

Total: $65.70

More Expensive

  1. J. Crew Collection, Cashmere Plaited Sweatshirt, $188.99
  2. Topshop White Shirt, $40.00
  3. Hudson Jeans, Nico Mid-Rise Skinny, $154

Total: $382.99

When wearing a cozy jumper/sweater, I like to pair it with a crisp white shirt left untucked as it provides a relaxed look. I usually wear a darker coloured sweater, but to brighten up a gloomy day, I might wear a lighter colour (mint green, blush pink, tiffany blue).

I also love wearing leggings. I usually use this same look, but instead of wearing jeans, I wear these.

What’s your rainy day outfit?

W2W: A Rainy Day (Part One)

I slept in this morning hitting the snooze button several times (snooze buttons shouldn’t exist or I need to put my alarm clock on the other side of my room). It was very gloomy and rainy outside, but I always love dressing for rainy weather. I look forward to pulling out my Hunter boots, stripes (the one and only Hudson’s Bay umbrella) and a cozy sweater. Here’s what I’d wear on a rainy day:

Outerwear

Cheap

  1. Forever 21, Ripstop Trench Coat, $29.80
  2. B2, Rain Boots, $58.98*
  3. IRain, Classic White Umbrella, $25.00

Total: $113.78

*These boots are on sale now!!

ExpensiveRAIN

  1. J. Crew, Collection Icon Trench, $344.00
  2. Hunter, Original Tour Rain Boots, $160.00
  3. Hudson’s Bay Company Collection, Walking Stick Umbrella, $35.00

Total: $539.00

I haven’t found a trench coat yet, but I love wearing Hunter boots and twirling my Hudson’s Bay Company Collection umbrella on a rainy day.

Classic black rain boots are always a great addition to your rainy day outfit, but to brighten up your day, you may want to choose a colourful pair. I have a silver metallic pair of rain boots from Hunter (I snagged  them on clearance from Holt Renfrew Last Call 5 years ago for $60!).

What colour are your rain boots?
